Bumper Sticker Philosophy

Once I traveled for a major company. It didn’t take me long to realize radio stations play the number one song every 23 minutes, and windshield time is highly overrated.
Some of my territory ran through the Mark Twain Forest and down to the beautiful Eleven Point River. No one could understand why I didn’t want to spend my fall weekends looking at more colorful foliage.

I lived in Springfield, Missouri and began to frequent the main library. On the weekend I would drop by and check out all the popular books they carried on cassette. Within six months I had listened to every best seller they had. Next I tackled the self-help books. I heard How to Win Friends and Influence People, Think and Grow Rich, and fell in love with Zig Ziglar.

Once I went through all of those I tackled the philosophers, Aristotle, Epicurus, Confucius and Socrates to name a few.

It got so when I stepped up to the counter, the librarian would have a list of things I hadn’t tackled yet. I went through travel, biographies, autobiographies, cooking and art.

I’m telling you, it wasn’t that I am smarter; it is that I remember bits and pieces and when just the right thing comes up, an answer comes to me.

We have all done it. You see a person you haven’t seen in years and a memory of her sitting in fifth hour study hall comes to mind, or you see a guy and remember what kind of car he drove thirty years ago.

Now we have Bumper Sticker Philosophy.

Everyone knows a quote from the famous men of ancient times. They just don’t know they do.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

We all know things famous people have said, quotes from the classics and have more knowledge than we have time to explore. Thus came: bumper sticker philosophy.
It is on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram thousands of times a day.

Get your mind out of politics, forest fires and police shootings a little while every day and take a minute to be lifted up by a little philosophy.
