Slow Down You Move Too Fast

Slow down, you move too fast
You’ve got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy…

Do you sometimes think you are getting pushed through life? Everything is on a schedule and the schedule gets tighter every year.
Go to Kindergarten at age 5, first grade at 6, get your driver’s license at 16, vote when you are 18 (I hope), and go to college if your lucky.
Now you’re about 22 years old. Get a job, have a family, retire at 65, and then statically think you will live to be about 80
To make things worse, they are pushing my holidays. In August they start to display the Halloween costumes. The first week in September everything having to do with Thanksgiving is being hauled to the shelves.

The first official Christmas shopping day was the Friday after Thanksgiving. The stores now open after the employees eat dinner with the family (if you eat early) otherwise they will have to fix that poor cashier a plate to go.
Black Friday has been lengthened to include what I call Gray Thursday. Come 4 o’clock; retail management considers Thanksgiving a done deal.

Christmas begins to show up the first week of October. Come on, shouldn’t Santa be  at the North Pole making toys and fattening up the reindeer, especially Rudolph , he looked a little under nourished last year.

I feel like I do when I’m on a winding road and the guy behind me is on my tail trying to push me to go faster.

I have come to ignore it all. I take my time with Halloween and don’t think about making plans for Thanksgiving until All Saints’ Day.

The next month we cuss and discuss where dinner will be and who will bring what.

Then there is Christmas. I do buy Christmas presents all year when I see something I know someone I love will want and it is half price.
Slow down, enjoy your life, never say you bought your last car, last couch, last TV, or took your last vacation.

Look forward, but not too fast.

Good points. But I have to admit to putting my tree up November 1st. I like to enjoy it. Then I take it down day after Christmas. By then I’m ready for summer.

The holidays are jam packed these days. Wish we could make it simple again.
